About the shed

Hillview Men’s Shed started in a garage with four people and a table saw and moved into the old scout hall on Example Street when the council offered it. There are fifty-odd members now, women among them, and six sessions a week.

The shed is an incorporated association run by a committee elected each November. It is funded by membership fees, the market stall, the occasional grant and the sausage sizzle at Bunnings.

Why a shed

Men’s sheds exist because a lot of people, when they stop working, stop seeing anybody. A shed is somewhere to go on a Wednesday with something to do when you get there and somebody to do it with. The woodwork is the excuse.
